Bijesh Jayarajan

Screenwriter, theatre and television director, and actor. Born in Kerala, he started his career as a theatre activist with ACT ONE THEATRE GROUP, committed to socially relevant plays and street theatre in New Delhi. After nine years in Delhi, he moved to Mumbai to join the Film Industry. From directing few episodes of teleshows like Jayate, Kagaar, Kadam etc, Bijesh moved to writing screenplays for films like Te3n, Summer 2007 and teleshows like YUDH, Raikar Case, Tagore Stories, Parvarish among some.

The monotony of the media industry, one day pushed Bijesh to pick his old Nikon FE camera up and started shooting on film. Analogue photography as medium was by then almost a dying art form both in India and globally. Armed only with a credit card, which opened the doors to accessing chemicals and films from across the world, Bijesh mastered the art of developing E6 and BW films at his darkroom at home. As his conviction grew to pursue this dying art, in 2015, Bijesh went to FAMU in Prague for a Master’s degree in Classical Photography which focused on Large Format Analog Photography. Bijesh continues to work in the Film Industry, while making time to shoot and print large format film at home and also instruct and enthuse young people who want to explore the magic of Analogue photography and Silver Gelatine prints.

born in Siliguri, and educated at Hindu College, Delhi University, he works as a labour rights activist based in Delhi. Manodeep was initiated into photography as a child on his father’s twin lens Yashica Mat. As the world moved rapidly and crazily to the digital medium, and photography as an art began to lose its meaning for most people taking photos, Manodeep set up a darkroom in his tiny apartment. Having lived in Delhi for most of his life now, the city and its unique blend of modern and historical architecture has fascinated Manodeep for years. His current project using his medium format 1990 model of Mamiya RB 67 focuses on the monuments of Delhi built by the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals and how people interact with these as part of their everyday life. Over the years Manodeep has introduced and mentored several young people in analogue photography, its processing and darkroom printing.

He has also conducted workshops for photographers introducing them to the world of analogue photography and printing. Manodeep is also an avid practitioner of alternative photography processes like Vandyck and Kallitypes using digital negatives thereby bringing in a hybrid work process into his photography pursuits.
