Manodeep Guha
born in Siliguri, and educated at Hindu College, Delhi
University, he works as a labour rights activist based in
Delhi. Manodeep was initiated into photography as a child on
his father’s twin lens Yashica Mat. As the world moved rapidly
and crazily to the digital medium, and photography as an art
began to lose its meaning for most people taking photos,
Manodeep set up a darkroom in his tiny apartment. Having
lived in Delhi for most of his life now, the city and its
unique blend of modern and historical architecture has
fascinated Manodeep for years. His current project using his
medium format 1990 model of Mamiya RB 67 focuses on the
monuments of Delhi built by the Delhi Sultanate and the
Mughals and how people interact with these as part of their
everyday life. Over the years Manodeep has introduced and
mentored several young people in analogue photography, its
processing and darkroom printing.
He has also conducted workshops for photographers introducing
them to the world of analogue photography and printing.
Manodeep is also an avid practitioner of alternative
photography processes like Vandyck and Kallitypes using
digital negatives thereby bringing in a hybrid work process
into his photography pursuits.
